Ronin Refuel Assessment

Is Epic helping your teams do their jobs effectively?

Workflows, customizations, teams, and priorities change after go-live. Ronin helps hospital leaders understand what has drifted, validate what matters, and build an optimization roadmap they can act on.

Measure the friction. Prioritize the improvements.

A Ronin Refuel Assessment connects Epic optimization opportunities to the operational measures leadership cares about: staff efficiency, patient access, revenue-cycle performance, and sustained adoption.

Clinical efficiency
Workflow time, documentation burden, and recurring friction.
Patient access
Appointment availability, referral turnaround, and throughput.
Revenue cycle
Denial rates, clean-claim performance, and billing delays.
Change adoption
Sustained use of improved workflows and reduction of workarounds.

Specific measures are selected during assessment scoping. The assessment establishes an evidence-backed baseline and prioritized roadmap. These are areas of measurement, not promises of particular results.

Recognize the pattern

When an Epic environment starts working harder than it should.

  • The optimization backlog keeps growing
  • Upgrades seem harder rather than easier
  • Workflows differ substantially between sites
  • Local customization keeps accumulating
  • New capabilities are deployed but underused
  • Clinicians repeatedly raise the same friction
  • Operational ownership is unclear
  • Leadership lacks a credible optimization roadmap

Recurring workarounds, uneven adoption, and workflow friction are reasons to take a closer look. Executive sponsorship, operational involvement, and access to useful evidence make the assessment workable.

Four assessment lenses

What Ronin evaluates

A structured view of the system and the operating decisions around it.

Standardization / Foundation alignment

Separate necessary local differences from variation that creates avoidable work.

Release currency / sustainability

Understand what it takes to stay current and make room for useful improvements.

Custom-content burden

Test whether local content earns its maintenance effort and has a clear owner.

Workflow / adoption alignment

Connect deployed capability to how clinical and operational teams actually work.

What leadership gets

A decision path, grounded in evidence.

The paid assessment separates confirmed findings from open questions. Each opportunity connects to an owner, an operational outcome, and the capacity needed to deliver it.

  • Evidence-backed current-state view
  • Application and domain scorecards
  • Opportunity portfolio with value and dependencies
  • Prioritized Refuel backlog
  • Integrated 12–18 month roadmap
  • Executive decisions, owners, and tradeoffs
  • Confirmed findings separated from open questions

Refuel work becomes useful when tradeoffs are visible.

Refuel delivery experience

Historical health system Refuel delivery work, separate from the current Ronin Refuel Assessment offering.

Challenge: An optimization backlog needed clearer priorities, decision ownership, and a delivery rhythm aligned with available capacity.

Approach: Supported backlog prioritization, governance, decision ownership, and a recurring delivery cadence.

Start with your current understanding

Not sure whether a full assessment makes sense?

Five questions. About two minutes. Start with staff effectiveness, workflow consistency, and whether changes stick. See your summary immediately without sharing contact details. Email it or book a Fit Check when you choose. No account, documents, or patient data are needed.

Take the Refuel Readiness Check

This readiness check is a screening tool, not an audit or formal assessment. Ronin provides independent consulting; this is not an Epic certification or an Epic-sponsored service.

Practical questions

Before you take the next step.

What is a Refuel Assessment?

An independent review of how an Epic environment, workflows, and adoption practices support daily operations. Ronin evaluates accumulated complexity, validates opportunities with evidence, and develops a prioritized roadmap with leadership.

Is this an Epic audit or certification?

No. Ronin provides independent consulting. The readiness check is a screening tool, and the paid assessment is not an Epic audit, certification, or Epic-sponsored service. Epic is a trademark of Epic Systems Corporation.

Does Ronin need PHI?

The assessment is designed to use aggregate, operational, and configuration-level evidence without patient-level PHI by default. Do not send PHI, patient records, credentials, or sensitive screenshots through this website.

What size health system is this for?

Hospitals and health systems with visible Epic complexity and a meaningful decision to make. Complexity, sponsorship, evidence availability, and operational involvement matter more than bed count. Staff effectiveness, workflow consistency, and sustained adoption matter more than time since go-live.

How long does an assessment typically run?

Timing depends on application scope, stakeholder availability, and evidence readiness. The Fit Check helps establish whether an assessment fits; Ronin agrees the working cadence and delivery schedule during scoping.

What information will Ronin need?

An application overview, governance and stakeholder structure, release information, the current backlog, strategic priorities, and aggregate adoption reporting. No files are needed for the readiness check. An evidence plan is agreed before assessment work begins.

Does Ronin have to execute the roadmap afterward?

No. Leadership can use the outputs with internal teams or other partners. Roadmap delivery or ongoing advisory support is a separate decision.

What happens after the Fit Check?

Ronin clarifies the decision, timing, sponsor, operational involvement, and available evidence. If there is a fit, the next step is a defined scope. If there is not, Ronin says so directly.

Make the next optimization decision clearer.

Bring the situation, the decision ahead, and the reason to act. A Refuel Fit Check establishes whether a structured assessment is the right next step.
